Single crystal prisms used for manufacturing electronic instruments, polarizers for optical instruments, and glass that can transmit infrared radiation. Used for leather and specialty soap. Iodine is a good catalyst in the methylation, isomerization, and dehydrogenation reactions of organic synthesis reactions. It is also used as a separating agent for alkanes and alkenes.
